Bolton council's recycling targets
In a bid to increase recycling and encourage residents to reduce and reuse, Central Government has set all councils in England and Wales challenging yet achievable targets with regards to their waste materials. Bolton has to recycle 40 % of all domestic waste by the year 2010 and reduce the total amount of waste collected and sent to landfill by 2008, failure to meet these targets will result in the Government imposing severe financial penalties.
The introduction of the burgundy bin along side the green box for recycling items such as plastic bottles, glass and cans as well as the green bin for garden waste and a beige bin and clear sack for paper and cardboard has increased Bolton’s recycling rate from 13% in 2004/5 to 30% in 2007/8. This superb performance is all down to residents taking part, as well as, keen commitment from the Council to develop quality collection services.
This places Bolton amongst the top recycling performers in Greater Manchester and highlights again the impressive partnership between residents and the Council in dealing with the global environmental issue of ‘waste’.
Thank you for recycling, by continuing to improve and develop the way we manage our waste together, hopefully Bolton will achieve and surpass its recycling targets.
This section shows how much we are recycling and how far we have to go to meet the targets.
